Working with some of the largest outdoors brands the topic of integrating smart devices on athletes gear is always a topic of conversation. This conversation usually ends with some great ideas, lots of scribble on the whiteboard and the fact that in order to visualize meaningful data fans will care about is simply too expensive. Intel is changing all of this (except maybe price) with a new device called Curie.

The Intel Curie module—a tiny, button-sized piece of equipment—gives athletes real-time analytics that they've never had access to before. They can learn their speed, the height of their jumps, the degree or rotation, and the force of landing as they compete in the BMX and Skate Big Air competitions—those are the ones with the gigantic ramp—as well as the BMX Dirt event.

Intel's Curie is still focused on niche activities but it is easy to see how this could be extended to other action sports.
